HOLLYWOOD GETTING SUED FOR USING CHRIST STATUE

Hollywood is getting sued for using Rio's famous giant Christ statue in its disaster movie blockbuster "2012".

Rio de Janeiro's archdiocese is demanding unspecified damages and interest from Columbia Pictures for showing the iconic landmark being destroyed in a worldwide apocalypse in a film that came out last year, the archdiocese's attorney, Claudine Dutra, said.

The archdiocese manages copyright issues related to the 40 meter high statue erected in 1931, which overlooks Rio with its arms outreached.

The Christ the Redeemer statue was created by Paul Landowski, a French artist of Polish descent, on commission from the Rio archdiocese and erected in 1931.

Landowski died in 1961, meaning the archdiocese holds the copyright until 2032, when the sculpture becomes part of the public domain.

What i like about this movie, is the effects, the thrill and the action. Don't mind the story, the character depth cause you'll just end up having a headache. Just try focusing on the action and the abundant of special effects the movie brings. Although I hope they would have given much time to explain the Mayan Calendar which was mention in the movie. Watch this movie with friends and turn off for the meantime the movie critic in you, and just watch famous landmarks getting destroyed, hero outrunning mass destruction. Because if you decide to turn on that movie critic in you, the movie which runs almost 3 hours would be a torture. But if you turn it off just like I said earlier you wouldn't notice those long hours.

2012 RACKS UP $23.7 MILLION AT THE US BOX OFFICE

I really want to watch this movie on the big screen but, watching movies at theater now a days are expensive. So Im just gonna wait till i had my own copy or if this would be available to rent.

"2012" the latest disaster movie opened to $23.7 million at the US box office last week, putting it on pace for a $60 million weekend that would exceed pre-release projections, according to studio data.

Opening simultaneously in 58 territories, the film also made $36 million if foreign grosses Friday, putting it on track for a worldwide opening that could reach $170 million.

Finishing in second place, Disney's Robert Zemeckis 3D Charles Dickens adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" dropped 38 percent from its premiere a week prior with $5.5 million.

As for 2012, its an auspicious start for a $200 million apocalyptic themed film, which stars John Cusack, Amanda Peet and Woody Harrelson. A typically action packed Emmyrich delivery, it's an easily translatable movie that appears as if it's doing what film makers offering do best: play big abroad.
